Reporting to the Vice President, Clinical Programs and Chief Nursing Executive, you will join CMH as we embrace a new era of care, expanded services and innovation. Construction is underway of a modern 5-storey tower and total renovation of all existing inpatient care and clinical support areas. Completion of our brand new hospital is set for 2019. An increase in beds from 143 to 197 to accommodate expanded services in Surgery, Rehabilitation, and Intensive Care is planned. Once the project is finished, CMH will have nine, integrated, state of the art operating theatres including a dedicated OR for Obstetrics, Urology and Ophthalmology, all fully equipped with advanced equipment for minimally invasive surgery.

Position Summary
The Director, Surgical Services works in collaboration with the Program Medical Director and physician leaders to develop program plans and goals, participates in decision making, and facilitates the management of fiscal, human and material resources assigned to the program. This role provides leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and fosters an environment of learning and individual growth.
The primary accountability is to ensure that high quality patient-focused care is provided in an efficient and effective manner in alignment with CMH strategic priorities and standards of care. We are searching for a passionate and driven individual with a proven track record to further clinical care and evidenced informed practice. This position contributes to ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Major Responsibilities
• Oversees the Perioperative Services, Medical Device Reprocessing Department, Inpatient Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation, Allied Health and Fracture Clinic
• Develops multi-year clinical services plans
• Provides leadership for patient experience, quality, risk and safety within the program areas
• Establishes and maintains external/internal partnerships and linkages
• Participates in corporate planning and projects
• Builds team cohesion by leading the management of change and disseminating and promoting an understanding of corporate mission and values
• Promotes the development of leadership skills and capabilities within the program areas
• Leads the development of clinical and workload metrics, indicators and outcome measures and works with care providers to improve performance
• Develops and promotes strategies for effective and efficient resource utilization
• Ensures provision of a safe work environment for all staff

Qualifications and Experience
• Must currently be a Regulated Healthcare Professional.
• Master’s degree in related field such as Health or Business Administration is required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years recent management experience in a hospital setting in surgical services is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient care excellence founded on patient safety and continuous quality improvement
• Exceptional analytical and information-seeking skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of leaders and a track record of building and maintaining strong working relationships with physicians
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong change management skills and experience.
• Budget development (capital and operating) and variance analysis experience required.
• Previous experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
