Construction is underway of a modern 5-storey tower and total renovation of all existing inpatient care and clinical support areas. Completion of our brand new hospital is set for 2019. An increase in beds from 143 to 197 to accommodate expanded services in Surgery, Rehabilitation, and Intensive Care is planned. Once the project is finished, CMH will have nine, integrated, state of the art operating theatres including a dedicated OR for Obstetrics, Urology and Ophthalmology, all fully equipped with advanced equipment for minimally invasive surgery.

Position Summary
The Director, Surgical Services works in collaboration with the Program Medical Director and physician leaders to develop program plans and goals, participates in decision making, and facilitates the management of fiscal, human and material resources assigned to the program. This role provides leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and fosters an environment of learning and individual growth.
The primary accountability is to ensure that high quality patient-focused care is provided in an efficient and effective manner in alignment with CMH strategic priorities and standards of care. We are searching for a passionate and driven individual with a proven track record to further clinical care and evidenced informed practice. Major Responsibilities
• Oversees the Perioperative Services, Medical Device Reprocessing Department, Inpatient Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation, Allied Health and Fracture Clinic
• Develops multi-year clinical services plans
• Provides leadership for patient experience, quality, risk and safety within the program areas
• Establishes and maintains external/internal partnerships and linkages
• Participates in corporate planning and projects
• Builds team cohesion by leading the management of change and disseminating and promoting an understanding of corporate mission and values
• Promotes the development of leadership skills and capabilities within the program areas
• Leads the development of clinical and workload metrics, indicators and outcome measures and works with care providers to improve performance
• Develops and promotes strategies for effective and efficient resource utilization
• Ensures provision of a safe work environment for all staff

Qualifications and Experience
• Must currently be a Regulated Healthcare Professional.
• Master’s degree in related field such as Health or Business Administration is required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years recent management experience in a hospital setting in surgical services is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient care excellence founded on patient safety and continuous quality improvement
• Exceptional analytical and information-seeking skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of leaders and a track record of building and maintaining strong working relationships with physicians
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong change management skills and experience.
• Budget development (capital and operating) and variance analysis experience required.
• Previous experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

POSITION SUMMARY
Cambridge Memorial Hospital is currently looking for a Manager of Perioperative Services to play an instrumental role in the overall operational management of the Perioperative Services programs including OR, PACU, Endoscopy, Medical Device Reprocessing Department, Fracture Clinic & Pain Clinic. Under the general direction of the Director, Surgical Services and working in close collaboration with the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Anesthesia, the Manager provides leadership for the multidisciplinary Health Care team in providing an exceptional experience for all. The manager ensures that the adequate human and material resources are available to support performance goals and the delivery of safe, quality patient care. This position seeks to promote and maintain a positive, professional, and safe team oriented environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the provision of patient care services within clinical programs including all operations such as patient flow, utilization, staffing, professional practice, identifying educational requirements, occupational health and safety including WHMIS
• Promotes a patient focused environment through the implementation of evidenced-based practice and continuous quality improvement including developing, implementing and monitoring performance indicators.
• Partners with the Clinical Educator Facilitator (CEF) to mentor and coach staff responsible for day-to-day patient care to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to service delivery.
• Develops, manages, monitors and reviews the financial performance of the program, initiates strategies to ensure budgetary variances are managed, and develops the annual capital equipment budget in consultation with key stakeholders.
• Partner with Human Resources to ensure compliance with all collective agreements, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements and ongoing retention and recruitment of staff
• Oversee compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements related to practice standards and patient safety and ensures the implementation of improvement strategies as required.
• Manages staff risk management issues and is responsible to implement strategies to minimize risk
• Facilitate the process for Accreditation within her/his areas of responsibility.
• Represents the hospital on external issues related to their clinical area of specialty and participates on corporate projects as required.
• Accountable for the Medical Device Reprocessing and Sterilization department
• Manages the delivery of Perioperative services programs to meet patient care needs, including a focus on the clinical expansion and the operational readiness associated with the Capital Redevelopment project

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Qualify for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• BScN or undergraduate degree required
• Master of Health Administration, Nursing or a related graduate level program, completed or in progress with completion within 5 years - Preference will be given to candidates with graduate degree in nursing or related field
• Minimum of 3-5 years recent clinical management experience in a hospital setting preferably in perioperative services
• CNA Certification in Perioperative Nursing required
• Evidence of management education and training and ongoing professional development
• Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
• Proficient with computers and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Regular attendance required
• Demonstrated ability working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
